Struggling to increase your podcast audience let alone generate leads, enquiries and paying customers from your podcast?

In last week’s article I shared Podcasting Mistake Number 1, which is not having a clearly defined strategy.

Today, I’m going to cover Podcasting Mistake Number 2: not having a clearly defined lucrative niche.

A question I’m often asked is: “How can I get my podcast to stand out?”

It’s an important question.

Especially if you want to build an audience of your ideal customers, who will eventually invest in your products and/or services.

If you feel your podcast isn’t generating the audience numbers you’d like, (especially people that continue to come back and engage/react when you share a call to action), here are a few things to consider:

  • Are you targeting a specific niche market?
  • Are your guests (and/or you) speaking about topics that will interest your niche market?
  • Do you have specific themes and/or topical news stories/information that’s relevant to your niche?
  • Are you providing ongoing value across each of your shows that is relevant to your niche?

Or not?

Sadly, for many businesses that are using podcasts as a way to build their visibility and reach the answer to the above questions is: not.

Which is why they continue to struggle to grow their audience and ultimately their client base.

Because when you’re trying to be all things to all people – no-one will hear you.

“When you try to speak to everyone – you end up speaking to no-one.”

Determine WHO it is your podcast is for? What are they challenged with? What keeps them up at night? What do they want to learn more about? How can you support them with the information you and/or your guests share?

When you start to define and get clear on your niche/ideal client and ensure your podcast is relevant to their needs – that’s when you’ll build momentum.

I share more as well as some examples in this podcast:

Over to you.

What is your lucrative niche? Have you continued to brainstorm until you have pinpointed a focused group in the market, or a specific offering that positions you uniquely in the market place?
